Port of Portland, Portland International Airport Landside Network Evaluation

GRI completed a network-level pavement evaluation for portions of the Economy Parking Lot, pavement sections near the bus staging area, and the northeast entrance to the airfield – for a total of 1,533,000 square feet.

Our project team conducted a pavement evaluation to assist the Port with their landside pavement management project selection and budget forecasts. A report containing an estimate of the pavement remaining life, visual and structural evaluations, and recommendations for maintenance and rehabiliation treatments was created.

Project team members completed a field investigation at the three sites that consisted of falling weight deflectometer (FWD) testing, pavement coring, and a pavement visual survey.

The pavement analysis was accomplished in accordance with the 1993 American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Guide for Design of Pavement Structures (AASHTO Guide).  The structural analysis was based on our FWD deflection test results and the pavement thickness information obtaineda from core explorations and the Port’s as-built data.  The traffic-loading information was based on typical traffic-loading levels for facilities given in the Asphalt Pavement Association of Oregon (APAO) Asphalt Paving Design Guide.
