Lane County, Hayden Bridge Seismic Retrofit
The project included the seismic retrofit of the Hayden Bridge, which provides the primary route for emergency services and supplies between the towns of Marcola and Springfield, Oregon. The intent of the seismic retrofit work was to improve the seismic resiliency of the bridge and establish a safe and reliable transportation network. GRI completed a geotechnical report for the seismic retrofit of the existing Hayden Bridge over the McKenzie River in Springfield. Our investigation included review of available published geologic information, review of existing subsurface conditions and plans for the bridge, subsurface explorations, and engineering analyses. Our project team provided our findings, recommendations, and geotechnical parameters for use in seismic analysis of the bridge structure to the project design team. To provide additional resistance to seismic forces micropiles, drilled shafts, shear walls, and strengthening of the existing foundation were all explored during the scope of work. Our project team also completed a Hazardous Materials Corridor Study (HMCS) to assist in identifying potential environmental conditions that could negatively impact the project.
