Jessica Schmitt

Administrative Coordinator

Jessica joined GRI in 2026 as an Administrative Coordinator. She brings nearly a decade of administrative experience and enjoys work that keeps people, projects, and day-to-day operations organized. She especially enjoys being part of a collaborative team, helping solve problems, and supporting the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly.

What is your favorite project completed at GRI?
On a personal level, I’m especially drawn to GRI projects that help make it safer and easier for the public to connect with nature, such as the Barbara Walker Crossing and the Oneonta Tunnel Rehabilitation Project. However, the Port of Newport International Terminal Project fascinates me the most because of the history, complexity, and ingenuity it required.

Where is your hometown? How did it shape who you are today?
I grew up in Palm Springs, California, surrounded by desert landscapes and mountain views. It shaped me into someone who never goes anywhere without a bottle of water, enjoys earthquakes, and gave me an early appreciation for geology, rugged terrain, and the natural world.

Favorite activity outside of work?
My favorite activity outside of work is hiking and birding while trying to identify the flora and fauna around me. I love slowing down enough to notice what’s growing, crawling, or calling nearby — it makes every walk feel like a tiny adventure.
