Staff Engineer

Besrat joined GRI in 2026 after finishing his doctoral degree in Civil Engineering. He has extensive experience in advanced laboratory testing and site response analysis. As a Staff Engineer, he is responsible for performing engineering analyses, subsurface explorations, construction supervision, and laboratory tests.

Where is your hometown? How did it shape who you are today?
I was born and raised in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. The construction boom in the city that took off in the mid-2000s sparked my interest and ultimately led me to civil engineering.

Favorite Meal?
Nothing lifts my spirits quite like a well-made Ethiopian vegan platter.

An interesting fact about yourself?
I was the national champion of Fantasy Premier League for the 2020/21 season.
