GRI completed a geotechnical investigation for the proposed Interstate 5 (I-5) Milepost (MP) 303.27 – MP 308.63 Variable Speed Signs for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The geotechnical work for the project included studies for two major sign-support structures spanning the northbound (NB) and southbound (SB) lanes of I-5. GRI conducted a subsurface investigation for the sign structures. Our investigation included review of available published geologic information and existing geotechnical information, subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, and engineering analyses. Our report describes the work completed by GRI and provides our conclusions regarding assessment of geotechnical conditions at each site and geotechnical recommendations for use in evaluating design alternatives and construction methods for this project.
The scope of the project included construction of new foundations for two new Variable Message Signs sign structures along I-5. The sign structures were constructed on sign bridges.
