University of Portland

University of Portland
Portland, Oregon

GRI has provided geotechnical services to the University of Portland since 1991 for projects that include the renovation of West Hall, a 100-year-old, five-story, brick-and-stone building; renovation of Christie Hall, an 80-year-old, four-story brick building; a new five-story Academics Hall; the two-story Health and Career Services Building; and new residence halls. Most recently, GRI provided geotechnical services for the University’s new bell tower, and Shiley Hall, the new three-story, 28,000 sq ft addition to the Engineering Building, making it the largest building on campus. For each of these projects, GRI evaluated subsurface materials and conditions at the sites and provided the design team with recommendations for site preparation, foundation and floor support, embedded wall design, and site-specific seismic design considerations.
