This 32-acre recreational project at Portland Community College’s Rock Creek Campus is the newest and largest multipurpose recreational facility constructed by Tualatin Hills Parks & Recreation District in the last 10 years. The facility includes two synthetic ball fields, four sand-based baseball/softball fields, six tennis courts, several small buildings, and paved parking. GRI evaluated subsurface conditions in areas of planned improvements and conducted a preliminary assessment to evaluate the feasibility of developing one or more on-site wells to provide irrigation water. The work included review of local geologic and groundwater conditions for the site vicinity and well logs for existing wells in the site vicinity; interviews with local well drillers, watermasters, and Oregon Water Resources Department personnel; and evaluation of whether one or more new wells on the site could affect existing wells. GRI personnel provided extensive observation services during earthwork and site preparation, foundation construction, backfilling of several retaining walls, and evaluation of base course materials for the manufactured turf-covered ball fields.
