Ecotrust’s Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center has been awarded a gold-level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification under the standards developed by the US Green Building Council. It was the first gold-rated building in Oregon and first gold-rated historic restoration in the nation. GRI served as the geotechnical consultant for this project, which involved the renovation of an existing two-story, masonry warehouse into an office building. GRI evaluated subsurface materials and conditions at the site and developed recommendations for site preparation; foundation support, including design of spread footings and micropiles; pavement design; and seismic design considerations. GRI personnel provided field observation and consultation services during construction of the project.
