GRI provided geotechnical engineering recommendations for the design-build team for the five-story, 85,000 sq ft Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) building. The BSS building meets the LEED gold rating “greenest” and is the most environmentally friendly and sustainable building in the California State University system. GRI completed an extensive subsurface exploration program to identify suitable bearing strata to support the relatively heavily loaded structure on spread footings. GRI also participated in fault trench mapping efforts because of the high seismicity in the region and the proximity of mapped faults. In addition to providing geotechnical design services, GRI provided consultation and observation services during earthwork and foundation construction.
