GRI provided geotechnical services for replacement of the I-84 overpass at Exit 64 in Hood River, Oregon.  The improvements will include replacement of the existing three-span bridge with a new single-span structure supporting I-84 traffic; new approach pavements to the bridge to accommodate the surface of I-84, which will be raised as much as 2 ft; a new eastbound on-ramp to I-84; and widening of the roadway beneath the overpass to five lanes; mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls up to 23 ft high; and new signals and signs.  This interchange ties into the Hwy 30 Hood River Bridge over the Columbia River and supports a significant amount of truck traffic related to nearby logging and food industries.  GRI also conducted a lead paint and asbestos survey of the existing bridge elements.
